Los Angeles, CA . . . An independent, found-footage feature film, The Jesus Tapes, is shaking up the indie world, similar to the groundbreaking The Blair Witch Project released 27 years ago. Are these tapes of Jesus real? Was the Blair Witch a true story? Who cares? Independent cinema is setting box-office records and leading the resurgence of movie-going in theaters with films like Obsession, Backrooms and Undertone.
Louise Levison, author of the business plan for The Blair Witch Project, and a creative/financial consultant on The Jesus Tapes, says, “It’s like lightning striking twice. Over the years I’ve been pitched countless variations of found footage films, but this one hits hard with an original premise and important message. It really redefines and pushes the boundaries of the genre by incorporating real-life characters and events in a more traditional three-act story structure while staying true to the found footage category.”
“This is the kind of film that gives audiences something to talk about long after they’ve left the theater,” says Harmon Kaslow, Atlas president and Hollywood movie producer (Atlas Shrugged). “Writer-director Rick Pamplin took the boldest premise in faith filmmaking, Jesus in the modern world, speaking his own words on the issues we’re still wrestling with today. We are proud to bring it to theaters nationwide.”
